Michelin Events Include Plenty of Art

The City of Anderson will host the 4th Conference of the International Network of Michelin Cities (INMC) on April 15-19, 2024.

About 200 visitors from around the world will come here to deepen their understanding of economic development in areas including mobility, incubators, sports, health, and art.

The Anderson Arts Center (AAC) is heavily involved with the art portion of this event, including a showing of artwork by abstract artist Brian Rutenberg. These works will be on display at the opening of the AAC Juried Show on Friday, April 19, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Rutenberg will also be speaking to the public on Wednesday, April 17, from 9-10 a.m. at Daniel Recital Hall at Anderson University’s Rainey Fine Arts Center. Admission is free.

The AAC will also host a screening of select films from the International Short Film Festival on Wednesday, April 17, at 5:30 p.m. at the Anderson Arts Center. Admission is free.

Three Anderson Artists Guild (AAG) members—Chet Lawson, Sue West, and Diann Simms—made up the Committee for the INMC Artist Project, which invited local artists to create tiny pieces of artwork (4 by 6 inches each) in a variety of mediums (watercolor, oil, acrylic, collage, alcohol ink, and attached sculpture) as gifts for the attendees. Over 200 pieces were submitted (see a sampling in the photo above). The AAG members who participated included Shea Abramo Fowler, Sara Bates, Pamela Brock, Rebecca Lawson Carruth, Sue Cheney, George Crown, Barbara Ervin, Myrl Garment, Carolyn Gibson, Diana Gilham, Kathe Harris, Mary Ann Horn, Chet Lawson, Sara Leady, Alison Mays, Mary McAlister, Brenda McLean, Kathy Moore, Rosemary Moore, Al Morris, Samantha Morris, Wesa Neely, Stan O’Bannon, Donna O’Hara, Yvonne Park, Mary Anne Porter, Polly Richardson, Nancy Roberts, Diann Simms, Alan Smith, Lori Solymosi, Jan Sparks, Armi Tuorila, John Urban, Patricia Walker, and Sue West.

“What this event is doing for the arts and artists in Anderson is opening doors for people to see the variety of talent as far as the visual artists in our community,” said Erin Spainhour, Interim Executive Director and Marketing Director of the AAC. “It’s broadening the vision of the arts and what we have to offer.”
