Robert Buscaglia Has Gravitated to Pouring and Sculpting

New Anderson Artists Guild member Robert Buscaglia, a native of Tonawanda, New York, who says he later “bebopped around the world,” settled in Williamston four years ago. “I wanted to go where the people were nice and the weather was nicer,” he said.

As a kid, he drew a lot of cartoons and caricatures but later gravitated to realistic landscapes in oil. During the COVID pandemic, though, the down time inspired him to experiment with acrylic pours and with welding objects to create sculptures.

The sculpting is an outgrowth of his career in HVAC. He worked in many facilities in many places, primarily responsible for all kinds of mechanical maintenance—everything from electrical to plumbing. He also taught refrigeration for the Board of Cooperative Educational Services in New York. And these days, after having torn ligaments in his right shoulder, he works part time from home reviewing marketing documents for HVAC and plumbing companies.

In his spare time, he pursues the art of the pour. “I like the unknown,” he said of this particular style of painting. “No matter how much I plan, it has a mind of its own, and I dig that.”

He’s done a few commissions but gives away most of his creations. One of his goals is to enter some juried shows and to meet some other artists.
