Suzanne Gendrot Made Sculptures out of Sugar
New Anderson Artists Guild member Suzanne Gendrot grew up in New England, drew a lot as a kid, and received an AS degree in Graphic Arts from Endicott College outside Boston. But then she decided it was not for her.
Instead, she followed the footsteps of her father, a French chef, going to work at the Mount Washington Hotel in New Hampshire as a pastry cook. From there she worked at numerous resorts, hotels and private clubs honing her skills. Going from a pastry cook to executive pastry chef took many years of hard work.
She used her art background to create beautiful sugar and chocolate showpieces for buffets and special events (see an example above on the top left).
She and her husband relocated to the Carolinas, where they found a much cheaper cost of living and “a nice little place on almost two acres.”
Now retired but considering returning to work part time, Gendrot has the freedom to follow a different artistic impulse: woodworking.
